NYR: The skincare range that changed my life

My skin and I have always had a love-hate relationship. In fact, no sooner had I entered this world did the camomile lotion get splattered on and the anti-scratch mittens get firmly secured to my wrists.

After 21 years of trying everything from silver balm to emu oil (yes, I said emu oil), I thought I finally had it all figured out—and then I moved to London.

The new environment and change in lifestyle left me with the skin and confidence of my 15-year-old self and, thanks to now being a real adult who had to pay bills and rent, expensive products and consultations with private dermatologists were a thing of the past.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, a cancelled train, and a lot of subsequent time to waste, led me to a Neal’s Yard Remedies store.

Like a kid in a candy store, I couldn’t resist smelling and testing every product I could get my hands on and, as I chatted with one of the lovely salespeople, I very quickly learned that NYR was a brand indicative of everything I value.

Since their opening in 1981, they have stayed true to their ethos that beauty should be natural; creating nothing but lovely, ethical, organic and effective products.

Not only are their products a dream for sensitive skin like mine, but their beautiful dark blue bottles and jars, made from 100% recycled plastic, are easy on the eyes—making their allure even more difficult to resist.

That day I left the store with their Rose and Mallow Moisturiser, Vitamin E & Avocado Night Cream and Frankincense Toner. Within a month my eczema subsided, the acne disappeared and, for the first time ever, I was completely content with my skin.

I knew for certain that I’d found the skincare range for me when, just a few weeks later, a girl at work said that my complexion was glowing—a compliment I never thought I’d be at the receiving end of.

I’ve since added the Honey & Orange Facial Scrub, Bee Lovely Body Lotion and, just yesterday, the Frankincense Intense Eye Cream to my daily regime—and I even have my boyfriend hooked on the NYR Men range.

Next on the wish list are the Detox Toning Oil, Seaweed Salt Scrub, and a cleanser—I just can’t decide which one, so, please, all suggestions welcome!

I know the price point may be a little scary at first, as it was for me—but I’ve never come across products with such longevity. In my opinion, NYR is synonymous with value for money. In fact, I’ve used just one and a half pots of moisturiser in a year and I’m still on my first bottle of toner, body lotion and jar of facial scrub.

I’ve shopped in three NYR stores and I’ve never had anything short of incredible customer service. The staff are more than willing to give samples of anything you wish to try before you buy—so I urge everyone, sensitive skin or not, to give them a go. It might just change your life like it did mine.
